Most people imagine re-entry as a bright streak of fire across the sky.
In reality, what happens in those milliseconds is far more complex: materials crack, pyrolyze, shed particles, and release chemical species that have never been measured in detail – until now.
Within the MSCA Doctoral Network SLICE โ€“ ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—œ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—–๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—˜๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, ๐——๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐Ÿฒ (๐——๐—–๐Ÿฒ) will get closer to this process than ever before. This project brings experimental re-entry science into a regime where data simply does not exist yet.What this research will tackle?
Using one of Europeโ€™s most advanced high-enthalpy facilities, DC6 will capture the moment when extreme plasma flows hit composite materials – frame by frame, spectrum by spectrum.
The result: the first experimental dataset dedicated to ablation product formation under flight-relevant conditions.Research Objectives
