DC12: Studying the impacts of rocket upper stage and satellite re-entry using laboratory experiments and chemistry-climate modelling
DC11: Modelling of rocket impacts on atmospheric composition, dynamics, and climate
Markus Ammann holds a PhD from ETH Zürich and is head of the Multiphase Chemistry Group in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC) at PSI and Adjunct Professor for Atmospheric Chemistry at ETH Zürich. His research interests include kinetics and mechanisms of atmospheric multiphase processes as well as the properties of interfaces of aerosol particles, cloud droplets or ice. This encompasses classical physical chemistry tools as well as advanced surface spectroscopy at the large research facilities of PSI, especially the synchrotron Swiss Light Source (SLS), and also modelling tools operating at different spatial scales. The environmental context includes the chemistry of the troposphere as it relates to air pollution, climate and health, but also the chemistry of the stratosphere, which becomes increasingly affected by anthropogenic activities in a changing climate and by increased space exploitation.
