Thierry Magin is a professor in the Brussels School of Engineering at the Université libre de Bruxelles, where he holds the chair in Aeronautical Engineering since 2022. He is also a professor in the Aeronautic and Aerospace Department at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI). In 2010, he founded a research team at VKI supported by the European Research Council. Together with his team, Prof. Magin is studying both fundamental principles and aerospace technology, in collaboration with space and defense agencies and industries. His research interests are related to hypersonics and very low Earth orbit applications. Gas-surface interactions during atmospheric entries are investigated for a broad range of applications: from spacecraft heat shield sizing to destruction of space debris and aerodynamic of space platforms. He was recipient of the Jean d’Alembert Chair at Ecole Polytechnique in France and the Fundamentals on Aerothermodynamics award of the European Space Agency.
